Substance Use Disorders and Child Welfare Education Project
Educating Child Welfare Staff in Substance Abuse Issues
PDP staff support and train child welfare professionals statewide to become better prepared to work with children and their families that are affected by substance use disorders. Through our educational programs and technical assistance, we provide:
- competency-based training to increase staff effectiveness
- individualized technical assistance for the implementation of knowledge, skills, and concepts
- topic specific training
Training Offered:
- 3-day training for caseworkers in order to gain knowledge and skills regarding addiction and recovery, the impact of addiction on the family and child safety, and casework interventions
- various topic specific, full-day trainings on adolescent substance use, brief solution-oriented interventions, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and helping people to change
- 2–hour I-Linc web-based training for an overview of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
- web-based training on co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (equal to 6 hours)
All training is approved by NYS OASAS for education hours towards initial or renewal of credentialing for CASC, CPP, or CPS.
