Salary: Low $40s (depending on experience)

The Professional Development Program of the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College seeks a candidate to fill an Education Specialist position. The successful candidate will develop and deliver training and technical assistance to local departments of social services and voluntary child care agency staff who provide adolescent services to youth in foster care.  Deliver training using standard methodologies; develop materials, concepts and strategies for use in consultation/training activities; and function as a strong team member to ensure consistency of services.  Assist with evaluation and reporting and other duties assigned to meet contractual obligations.  Participate in regional and statewide youth leadership activities.  Full-time position with variable work hours.  Ability to conduct training assignments at various locations throughout NYS.  Maintain a valid NYS drivers’ license.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization;

  • Experience in child welfare and service delivery; Demonstrated proficiency with oral and written skills;
  • Applicant must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population;
  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities/competing deadlines in a team setting;
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in use of e-mail, electronic calendar, computer templates, word processing;
  • PowerPoint, and Internet;
  • Ability to travel throughout New York State regularly to deliver training and attend meetings and the ability to lift 40 pounds;
  • Candidates selected for a final interview will be asked to give a presentation on an adolescent related issue.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience in NYS child welfare practice, including the provision and/or supervision of life skills development and adolescent services to adolescents in foster care;

  • A broad knowledge base in areas of adolescence, human sexuality, and foster care systems;
  • Experience in developing curricula and delivering training;
  • Knowledge of adult education theory and providing consultation;
  • Knowledge of recent federal and statewide child welfare initiatives.
