In partnership with external sponsors the Professional Development Program of the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College seeks applications for the position of Research Scientist/Assistant Program Evaluator. In conjunction with the Senior Program Evaluator and reporting to the PDP Assistant Director, the Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting in the management of the evaluation function for a $46 million continuing professional education program supported by a variety of external sponsors; the design and pretest of survey and data collection instruments and interview protocols to be used to evaluate traditional/non-traditional education and training programs related to current public sector initiatives in areas such as Temporary Assistance, Food Stamps, Child Support Enforcement, and tobacco cessation. Duties will also include, but not be limited to: focus group and meeting facilitation, data analysis, report writing, presentation of findings, and technical assistance and training in instrument design, item construction, and content analysis for PDP staff and external customers. Position is full time with variable work hours based in Albany. Ability to travel regularly to New York City to conduct evaluation activities and attend meetings is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social sciences or related field;
- Two to three years experience in evaluation and research of public sector/social services/public welfare training programs including strong competence in survey design and implementation;
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people;
- Demonstrated excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills;
- Demonstrated experience conducting computer analysis and research using SPSS, Microsoft Access, and other report writing programs and in use of e-mail, electronic calendar, word processing, and the Internet;
- Ability to work variable hours; ability to travel regularly to New York City to conduct evaluation activities and attend meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience facilitating focus groups and meetings;
- Working knowledge of state and local government agencies and the NYS/NYC Social Services system.
