The Professional Development Program of the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College seeks candidates for a full time Senior Web Application Developer.   The successful candidate will work together with other staff on the Office Training and Automation Project and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) Bureau of Technology and Office Automation (TOA), maintain, develop and implement software applications and training activities designed to help participants learn how to use available technological resources efficiently and to increase workflow productivity.

 

Description of Duties

Performs all aspects of duties as listed in Programmer/Analyst position:

  • Using defined coding applications (VB.Net, ASP.Net, HTML, some JavaScript and/or C++) develop software applications, websites, spreadsheets and user interfaces.
  • Evaluate software upgrades and new software products; test for feasibility of implementation.
  • Assist with needs and requirements analysis activities; analyze workflow processes for redesign using added capabilities of new technology.
  • Work with the database administrator to create and design efficient databases.
  • Facilitate increased connectivity; work with trainees on automating workflow processes; and design and develop systems to automate workflow processes.
  • Train OTDA staff on methods for testing new technology and its interaction with the current environment, on methods for automating workflow processes and on how to use programs designed to automate workflow processes.
  • Provide one-on-one technical assistance, focus group (pilot testing) and demonstrations of developed applications.
  • Develop detailed documentation and training for customized applications.

In addition:

  • Mentor Programmer Analyst and Education Specialists as needed
  • Assume lead position in new application or existing application enhancement project design including high-level conceptual design and detailed design specifications
  • Assume lead position on development projects as assigned, and perform associated tasks such as coding, scheduling, supervision, and full spectrum of communication activities
  • Expand knowledge into new technology and development tools
  • Achieve advanced level of competency in required development tools
  • Provide technical support to all office personnel as needed, incorporating open communication techniques as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization (based on experience Associates Degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization will be considered). 
  • Three years of web-based application development experience required. 
  • Strong proficiency with relational databases. 
  • Experience with MS Office 2007, Windows XP Pro, Windows Server 2003, VB.Net, VB Script, HTML, Java Script, ADO/ASP.Net, SQL Server 2005, developing documentation and training required.
  • Applicants must address in their applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or internationally recognized accrediting organization in.
  • Familiarity with SQL Reporting Services, Fortify, ACCVerify and W3C compliance are a plus.
