Research

The Center for Human Services Research (CHSR) was first established as an affiliate of the Professional Development Program in the fall of 1991, and is now a program of the University at Albany's School of Social Welfare. CHSR supports PDP's mission through its dedication to developing empirically based knowledge in order to promote effective services that meet human needs. The Center conducts applied research on human service programs and systems through interdisciplinary partnerships with government, foundations and non-governmental agencies. In so doing, the CHSR extends the services of the University to assist government and its affiliated organizations to better meet their goals and objectives.

CHSR conducts research and program evaluations to help meet human needs in the areas of child welfare, substance abuse, juvenile justice, mental health, and many other areas related to child and family services. Utilizing the University at Albany's vast research and technological resources, the Center engages in a variety of activities, including:

  • Advancing practices—that inform and help audiences adapt to public policy
  • Designing information systems—for administering and evaluating programs
  • Disseminating findings—through publications and technical reports
  • Promoting scholarship—through education, training and meetings
  • Engaging in partnerships—with government and affiliates

If you'd like to know more about what we do, or are interested in conducting empirically based research on your project, visit the CHSR website or contact Rose Greene, CHSR Associate Director.
