Leadership
Organizational Leadership
PDP offers three unique and highly regarded leadership programs for New York State government employees under PDP’s Public Service Workshops Program (PSWP):
Aspiring Leaders Program
The Aspiring Leaders Program is a three-day program designed for those newer to leadership and managerial roles. The workshop develops participants’ ability to successfully lead by enhancing skills related to emotional intelligence, effective communication, setting and attaining goals, and developing action plans.Leadership Development Program
The Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a well-established multi-month program tailored to those established in supervisory and managerial roles. LDP focuses on the development and practical application of integral leadership skills such as creative problem solving, project management, and interpersonal communication skills, and includes the completion of a job-related project intended to improve performance in the participant’s work unit and have a broad positive impact on agency performance. The New York State Leadership Institute
The NYS Leadership Institute (NYSLI) is the product of a partnership between NYS Office of Employee Relations, PDP, and Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy. The six-month program is based on the Executive Core Qualifications (EQCs) of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and provides senior-level state personnel the tools and strategies to successfully meet the challenges facing those in leadership positions in New York State government. The program skillfully marries the academic expertise of Rockefeller College faculty with the knowledge and insight of experienced practitioners of State government work, resulting in a high-level educational program focused on leadership theory and practical application.
Youth Leadership
Youth In Progress supports foster care youth from across New York State in self-advocacy, increasing involvement in all systems that touch their lives, and empowering youth through development of leadership and decision-making skills. PDP coordinates Youth in Progress for the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and hosts regular meetings in all regions of NYS.
Youth In Progress is comprised of youth leaders, each with an adult mentor, from all over New York State. YIP continues to partner with OCFS to hear, listen, and learn from youth in care, and using their voices to make targeted improvements in the quality of services provided within New York State's foster care system.
Youth In Progress youth leaders are involved in planning and delivery of summer Youth Events and are connected to internship opportunities.
